Separation techniques for the purification of dirty biofuels

As sustainable energy becomes increasingly important, biofuels are a better option than fossil fuels. But the purification of these fuels is necessary to increase efficiency and to reduce costs for downtime and ash handling. Norditek has developed several separation technologies that effectively clean dirty biofuels.

Dirty biofuels

Many heating plants have problems with the control of incoming material from different fuel suppliers such as recycled wood, household waste, grot or other mixed waste containing pollutants such as stone, plastic, paper, etc. Pre-treatment gives a good control of the fuel with a better quality, a higher output and reduced ash handling and avoids expensive downtime.

Wind screening:

Our wind screening process plays a crucial role in removing lighter contaminants such as plastic and paper from biofuels. By using air flows, these unwanted materials are effectively separated using Norditek's wind shifter.

Norditek's screen are designed to separate different materials from each other with high precision. In the process, the sorting plant is optimized to work together with the other modules and ensure the purity of the biofuels. Norditeks launched the brand new ES5200 electric sieve in the fall of 2023.

Crushing:

The crushing technique reduces the size of material, which facilitates subsequent separation processes. This step is important when you need to ensure that the size of the biofuel is correct.

Eddy current magnet:

Our using eddy current magnets helps to extract non-magnetic metals from biofuels. This method is particularly effective in isolating aluminum which is a common problem in many FB boilers where they clog the air holes and cause downtime.

Magnetic separations:

To remove magnetic metals, we use powerful magnets such as overband magnets. This process is critical to ensure that iron and its alloys are effectively separated from the biofuel.

water bath:

By using water bath we can separate materials based on density. This is a crucial process to ensure that heavier contaminants are effectively removed from things that float, such as wood.
