The material
Recovery of metals from slag ash
By sorting the material into multiple fractions and using magnets and eddy current magnets, we can maximize the refinement of metals such as copper, aluminium, iron, etc. from slag ash. We can customize the solution according to your material and your capacity and quality requirements.
What is slag?
Slag or ash from waste incineration is the residual product left after energy recovery from waste or waste wood. The ash contains magnetic metals (iron) and non-magnetic metals (copper, brass, aluminum). These metals have a high economic value and can be recycled almost any number of times without losing their properties. Recycling metals instead of mining new ones saves huge amounts of CO2 and reduces the generation of mining waste.
Why is it important to recycle slag?
The ash contains magnetic metals (iron) and non-magnetic metals (copper, brass, aluminum). These metals have a high economic value and can be recycled almost any number of times without losing their properties.
Recycling aluminum saves a lot of energy
It takes 95% more energy to make new aluminum compared to recycling existing aluminum. For steel, the energy gain from recycling is 75%. Moreover, metal can be recycled any number of times.
Major climate benefits from metal recycling
Recycling metals instead of mining new metals saves huge amounts of CO2 and reduces the generation of mining waste.
Mines account for most of the waste in Sweden. In 2016, households and businesses generated a total of 142 million tonnes of waste, of which 110 million tonnes came from the mining industry. One tenth of this mining waste was used for backfilling or construction work while the rest was disposed of.
Mining for a few years can produce waste that causes environmental problems for many generations to come, so it is extremely important to recycle metals instead of mining new ones.
